- Ayo Omidiran has dismissed rumuors that Bola Tinubu would dump the APC for another party.
- She said it was impossible for Tinubu and his associates to leave a party they fought hard for, for someone else
- The lawmaker admitted that the party had issues but they were being addressed
A member of the House of Representatives, Ayo Omidiran, said the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, would not leave the party for another political party.
Speaking on Thursday, December 22, Omidiran said Tinubu, his allies and associates such as Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state, would not abandon the APC which they sacrificed so much to build for anybody.
The Punch reports that the lawmaker who represents Ayedaade, Irewole, Isokan federal constituency of Osun state said even if other politicians decided to dump the APC, Tinubu and his associates would not.
“Tinubu, my governor, his associates and those people you mentioned will not leave the APC for anybody because it is their party. There is nothing like leaving the APC for another party. Leave it for whom?” she queried.
According to her the party had issues but they were not enough to break the party into fragments. She said the issues were being addressed.
“In APC, have you ever heard of New APC or any such names? “It is in the PDP that you can talk about factions or new PDP; we don’t have new APC,” she added.
The lawmaker described herself as a “loyal party member to the core” and this cost the post of a standing committee chairman because she supported the preferred candidate of the APC for the position of House of Reps speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, as against supporting the eventual winner, Yakubu Dogara.
For some time, there have been reports of a rift between Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari. There were insinuations that the APC national chairman was planning to float a new party.
However, a statement signed by his spokesperson Sunday Dare, Tinubu denied having any rift with the president.
Speaking on the matter, an APC chieftain Mallam Mohammed Lawal said Tinubu would only quit the party if Buhari quits the ruling party.
