Ahead of 2019 general elections, Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki has reportedly held a private meeting with the factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ali Modu Sheriff.
According to a report by Punch newspaper, Mr Saraki arrived the International Conference Centre complex, Abuja, on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at about 7.30 pm and left around 7.51pm alongside the embattled former Borno state governor, Mr Sheriff.
While the details of the meeting was not made public, the report said both men spoke about “mutual interest” as speculations about political re-alignments ahead of the 2019 general elections thickens.
But Mr Saraki’s aide . Chucks Okocha has said the meeting was not about politics.
“My principal only went to felicitate with the Sheriffs over the wedding of their daughter.
“The Sarakis and the Sheriffs have been family friends for over 20 years.
“There is nothing usual about them sharing moments of joy such as weddings. It was just a social visit and that is what it is.”
