Ex-FCT minister Bala Mohammed regains freedom

- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained the former minister after he voluntarily presented himself

- For 45 days he remained in the custody of the anti-graft agency as investigation into his activities continued

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s minister finally regains freedom.

Senator Bala Mohammed, the former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has regained his freedom after a month and half in detention.

Mohammed, who served former President Goodluck Jonathan, was in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for 45 days following alleged corruption in office.

The former minister had voluntarily reported himself at the commission’s headquarter in Abuja on Monday, October 24.

He was detained the same day with Reuben Abati, a former spokesperson for Jonathan. Abati was later released while Mohammed remained in custody.

Tribune reports that he was freed by the agency late Thursday, December 9.

The report said the former minister brought an application of rights violation to the FCT high court against the anti-graft agency and further sought an order for his release pending when he would be arraigned.

He was also reported to have sought before Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf, for an award of N100 million damages against EFCC.
