Two businessmen, including a 74-year old man, brought before Karu Magistrate’s court in Abuja, have been remanded in Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State over allegation of forgery of land documents.
Sunnie Motilewa, 51, of Mclowe Property Ltd Gudu, Abuja, and Usman Mohammed, 74, were alleged to have connived with one Bashiru Mohammed, now at large to forged land documents in respect of Plot 96 Cadastral Zone CIO Wumba District, Abuja, belonging to MAI ULU Nigeria Ltd of No. 5 Lebanon Road Kano, Kano State.
They were arraigned by the Police on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and forgery contrary to Sections 97 and 364 of the Penal Code law.
Police Prosecutor, Albert Okara, told the court that the accused persons forged the documents of the said land with intention of selling the property to deprive the rightful owner of the plot.
However, the accused persons denied the allegations, but their lawyers could not prevent them from being sent to prison, as leave of court sought by Ayodele Babalola, counsel to the first accused, to make oral bail application was turned down by the court based on the gravity of the alleged offences.
Presiding Magistrate, Shuaibu Ahmed, in his ruling, ordered the accused persons to be remanded in prison custody and for their lawyer to come for their bail application by way of motion.
The case was adjourned till November 19 for prosecution to open his case for hearing.
