Former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba says those who claim to be the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s followers but support the Labour Party are “liars”.

The Action Congress of Nigeria chief, who addressed party supporters at a rally in Ondo town on Wednesday, said the belief of the late Western Region Premier conflict with what the ruling LP in the state stands for.

He said, “Some people claim that they are followers of Awolowo but support Mimiko. Awolowo always went the majority.

“Awolowo was a man of the people, who always did the will of the majority.”

Osoba vowed the ACN would “police its votes” during the October 20 governorship election.

The veteran journalist dispelled the rumours that the ACN had been doling out money to influence the electorate

“Some said we are distributing money; our party does not do that. Only the LP does that because it has access to the funds of the state,” he said.

Osun State Deputy Governor Titilayo Laoye-Tomori implored the people of the state to vote for the ACN’s candidate for the poll, Rotimi Akeredolu.

The party’s National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, said, “If you ask Aregbesola, for example, to point to his brothers, he will point to governors Kayode Fayemi. Abiola Ajimobi, Adams Oshiomhole, Babatunde Fashola, Ibikunle Amosun. Can you ask Mimiko to do the same? He can’t.

“The LP will only separate Ondo from the rest of Yorubaland in terms of development.”
