Punch reports that the Ondo state chapter of the party expressed its readiness to give full backing to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a probe into the tenure of Mimiko of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ondo APC Publicity Secretary Abayomi Adesanya was quoted as saying investigations have already started into Mimiko’s tenure and the party is now willing to help bring him to justice if found guilty of misappropriation of funds.
He said: “Already investigations are ongoing about the Mimiko government. If the anti-graft agencies such as the EFCC need any information from us to assist in their investigation, the incoming APC-led government will provide all the necessary assistance and information.
“One of the cardinal issues that the APC is committed to is the war against corruption. Corruption must be uprooted. It is destroying our country. We salute the professionalism of all security agencies before, during and after the governorship poll. We commend specially the sacrifices of the security agents that were deployed from various states in Ondo State.
“We wish to assure the good people of Ondo State that the Akeredolu will be a regime of a new dawn where indices and traces of dictatorship, tyranny and corruption shall have no breathing space.”
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for a good job done and described the simultaneous accreditation and voting system adopted by the commission as a landmark strategy.
Recall that to win the Ondo election held on Saturday, November 26, Akeredolu scored 244,842 votes. His closest challenger, Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP scored 150,380 votes. Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, currently has 126,889 votes.
