- As fear continues to greet the speculation that a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering a new party, Sheriff has spoken out
- The Sheriff faction also reminded the Ahmed Makarfi faction that the name of the party was not the problem but that there are other factors affecting it
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has reportedly wished the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee of the party luck over claims that the latter is considering the formation of a new part.
There had been speculations that a faction of the PDP was considering dumping the party and forming another one following the unending crisis that has seen the its secretariat shut for many months now.
Walid Jibrin, the chairman of the party's board of trustees, had earlier described such move to form a new party as a disaster for the PDP.
Daily Trust reports that the Sheriff faction, in a statement by its spokesperson, Bernard Mikko, however explained that forming a new party was not the solution to the problem of the PDP.

The statement further noted that the party's name was not the prolem but the impunity being perpetrated by its leaders and members.
The Sheriff faction warned the Makarfi faction to expect to be rejected by Nigerians since the people already know about their antecedents.
The group said: "Nigerians are fatigued by the turnover of political institutions positioning for access to our common heritage, without ideology and template for unity and national development.
"As the Makarfi group contemplates dumping PDP for a new party, PDP wishes them well in their new endeavours, but they should be reminded that the problem isn't in the name but the people and their penchant for impunity."
