Mimiko Campaign Organisation has alleged that the Action Congress of Nigeria had been importing arms and engaging the services of thugs ahead of the October 20 Ondo governorship election.
Director of Publicity and Media Relations of the MCO, Mr. Kola Olabisi, in a statement on Tuesday, also alleged that the ACN was planning attacks on people “in its orchestrated ambition to annex the state to its empire in the South-West”.
But the ACN Director of Media and Publicity of the Akeredolu Campaign Organisation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, described the allegation as “false”.
He said, “We are not having thugs not to talk of training them. It is Mimiko and is party that is nurturing an army of thugs, which they are using to intimidate the opponents.
“Our rally in Ikare is being aired live and the whole world can attest to its peaceful nature. Nobody has been molested and you cannot see any thug on sight.”
Olabisi however said, “Over 5,000 of such people, (thugs) who have been camped at the Trade fair Complex Ado Ekiti were now being ‘shipped’ in batches to Ondo State to foment trouble.
“The dangerous development borne out of desperation by the ACN to make good its threat to capture Ondo State at all costs.
“This should be taken with all seriousness by the security agencies that should be aware of the antics of the ACN and nip it in the bud by placing an iron-clad surveillance of our border towns.”
He added, “On Monday in Agege, Lagos, the leadership of ACN held a meeting and agreed to mobilise some youths from all the 20 local governments in the state to unleash mayhem.
“These youths to be used as party agents, thugs and for surveillance purposes would be paid N5,000 each per day as feeding allowance apart from whatever they will be paid at the end of the exercise.
“Each of the council is to fund those chosen from that council and they are to be ‘ferried’ into the state from today (Tuesday) to participate in ACN rallies and later be integrated into the Ondo communities where they would do their master biddings.
“In the last two weeks, a popular hotel owned by a top government official in Ado Ekiti has become the situation office and headquarters of what has been tagged: Operation Capture Ondo State by the ACN.
“Indeed, the Trade fair Complex has now been turned into the camp for these army of occupation and to make room for these thugs and give the exercise some secrecy, government officials who have offices there have been relocated out of the Trade Fair Complex” the MCO alleged.
The MCO therefore noted that the situations in the state portend danger for Nigeria if allowed to go unchecked.
He said, “In Ondo State, we are fighting an ideological war. It is a contest between a colonialist and a democrat.
“It is war between One who wants to turn the South West into his personal empire so that he will be President of the South West just like Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is President of Nigeria and a man determined to make his people proud of themselves and their state.
“And considering the desperation and the posture of the leader of the ACN, this will definitely not augur well for this country if he should have in his pocket all the South West States.
“This is somebody who has never seen anything good in the leadership of the President Jonathan. A word is enough for the wise.”
