PPA Candidate Faults NEDG’s Decision On Debate

Progressive Party Alliance’s candidate for the October 20 governorship election, Chief Omoregha Olusola, on Tuesday criticised the decision of the Nigeria Election Debate Group to select three out of the 13 candidates for the governorship debate on October 11.

The NEDG at the end of the second session of the debate for the candidates Friday announced three candidates would be selected for the final debate.

The PPA candidate, who spoke with reporters, said, “Selecting only three candidates means that all other 10 candidates have been automatically prejudged even before the electorate decides who their governor should be.”

Olusola, who expressed his displeasure over the decision, demanded to know  “the criteria which the NEDG would use in arriving at the three candidates”.

He said, “There is no way that the debate group can drop the Labour Party’s candidate because that is the ruling party, there is no way that the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Chief Olusola Oke, can also be dropped because he is representing the biggest party in Africa.

“Dropping the Action Congress of Nigeria would not be possible because that is the major opposition party in the country.

“If all these three are picked due to the analysis that I had made, it means all other 10 candidates had been ruled out of the election even before the election.”

Olusola said reports that he got from those who watched the debate on television, both in Nigeria and abroad, showed that he came third.

He therefore expressed his fears that “with the analysis I had made, I may not be picked for the final lap of the debate”.

Olusola advised the NEDG to create a level playing ground for the all the candidates.

He threatened to sue the NEDG should the organisation go ahead with his plan adding that he had already contacted his lawyer on the matter.
