Mother, daughter, grand-daughter perish in Niger boat mishap

A total of seven people have died in a boat mishap which occurred at River Gbako in Katcha local government area of Niger state.

To make matters worse, three people representing three generations from the same family died in the accident.

Malam Ahmed Inga, Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency told journalists in Minna today, November 5, that four women and three children drowned when the boat they were travelling in capsised.

He further explained that the boat was conveying 10 female farmers from Balsa community to a rice farm across the river.

According to The Punch, Inga however said three women were rescued by local divers after the accident, which occurred at about 11am.

“Yabagi Ibrahim, the owner of the farm lost a wife, a daughter and granddaughter in the unfortunate incident,” he added.

Two months ago, a serving corp member identified as Dayo, in Rivers state died after falling off a boat and drowning in a river.
