Over 100, 000 people are trapped in some villages in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, head of the interim management of the council, David Ogu, said yesterday.
Ogu, who spoke when a group, the Igala Helping Hand, donated relief materials to flood victims in the local government, said Ibaji has a population of about 270,000 and that 30,000 people were evacuated to relief camps in Idah, some taken to Anambra State, while the rest are still trapped in the villages by the flood.
“Boats are still evacuating people from the area. Boats with capacity of carrying more people just arrived and we are still expecting more. It is a pity that the facilities that we have are not enough to tackle the situation,” he said.
