BREAKING! 240 Boko Haram terrorists surrender to MNJTF

The Nigerian military on Monday, October 31, said 240 members of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group surrendered to the Multi National Joint Task Force.

A statement by the chief military public information officer Muhammadu Dole said the terrorists surrendered after an operation by the ground troops and joint air operation of the MNJTF’s operation Gama Aiki.

Dole, a colonel said sustained offensive operations and blockage of logistics supply routes made the terrorists’ location indefensible.

He said the affected terrorists and their families abandoned their locations and surrendered with their arms to the nearest location of ground forces.

He said, the recent wave of mass defection took place in Sector 2 Area of Responsibility (AOR) Bagasola in Chad.

Dole said: “A total of 240 Boko Haram Terrorists surrendered, some of them with arms and ammunition.”

“They are being profiled and camped in Bagasola. During his operational visit to Sector 2 AOR, the Commander MNJTF, Major General Lamidi Adeosun addressed the ex -BHT and their families,” Dole said.

He said the commander of the unit commended the leaders of the sect for their courage to taking the right decision.

The terrorists were also assured of their safety and care as long as they remain in the camp.

“This peaceful disarming and profiling of the ex-BHT by the MNJTF  forces, clearly demonstrated extent of professionalism and adherence to International Humanitarian Laws and Laws of Armed Conflict in combat operations,” he said.

Furthermore, the commander of the MNJTF donated cash token for the purchase of two cows and 10 bags of assorted food stuff to the two groups for the welfare of the new converts and their families.

“This brings to the total number of surrendered BHT to MNJTF troops in sector 2 to 464,” Dole said.

Meanwhile, addressing some international non-governmental agencies operating in the camps, the MNJTF commander commended them for their commitment in discharge humanitarian duties.

He also urged the agencies to mobilize more resources and manpower, as more BHT are expected to defect and join their colleagues in the camps.

Also, there was another cash presentation to representatives of officers and soldiers who were killed in Action (KIA) and Wounded in Action (WIA) during Operation Gama Aiki by the commander.

He said this was part of encouragement and alleviation of

suffering to the victims’ families and wounded personnel.

Dole said, the MNJTF headquarters made provision for 1,000,000 cfa each for the families of personnel killed in action and 5,000,000 each for those wounded.
