UPDATED: Bishop Kukah visits EFCC, prays for FFK, others (photos)
- The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Matthew Kukah on Monday, October 31, visited a former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
- Others visited by the Bishop include former junior minister of defence Musiliu Obanikoro and ex-presidential spokesperson Reuben Abati
- Bishop Kukah encouraged and prayed for the trio who were in detention
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Matthew Kukah on Monday, October 31, visited a former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja.
A source within the commission told Legit.ng the bishop arrived at the commission’s headquarters at about 1 pm on Monday.
Kukah also visited the former junior minister of defence Musiliu Obanikoro and Reuben Abati, a former presidential spokesperson to Goodluck Jonathan.
Fani-Kayode, Abati and Obanikoro are currently being held by the EFCC for monies received during the 2015 general election.

The source told Legit.ng that the Bishop who was accompanied by the EFCC’s chairman Ibrahim Magu spoke in kind word to the trio.
It was also gathered that the Bishop prayed for the trio.
“He spoke very kindly, he also prayed for and with them (Fani-Kayode, Obanikoro, Abati) and encouraged them to be strong as these are trying times for them,” the source said.

The source said the Bishop also commended the EFCC and its leadership.

Also, the EFCC in a statement sent by its spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren said the Bishop commended the commission and its chairman on the state of the facilities in Abuja.
Describing the clinic and the detention area as 'clean and orderly', Kukah said the detainees were cheerful.
Uwujaren said the Bishop who was conducted round the facility by the EFCC chairman expressed delight that the detainees were in high spirits despite the discomfort of being in temporary restriction.
Kukah said: "I discussed with some detained suspects like Femi Fani-Kayode, Musiliu Obanikoro and Reuben Abati; and I am quite pleased they are looking cheerful."
"I was also happy with the humility of the acting Chairman who took me round and the way he interacted with the detainees. This is what is important for our country so that nobody takes these kinds of things personal. I am happy I came,"
He added that all Nigerians should see themselves as crusaders of anti-corruption.
"We’ll continue praying that God guides you, keeps you safe and ensure that we build a country that we all will be proud of,"
"This country has suffered so much, but we hope and pray that we can bring the suffering and trauma to an end as we collectively fight corruption.
Subsequently, the chairman of the commission assured the trio that their detention is not personal.
Magu said: “It is not personal. This is all about Nigeria and making it better. And I think there is a consensus around this."
Meanwhile, the former ministers and spokesperson were earlier visited by the deputy president of the National Assembly Ike Ekweremadu last week.
During his visit, Ekweremadu told the EFCC detainees that they were paying the same price of leadership paid by past leaders who were detained in the Nigeria.
