Nigeria’s Paralympic athletes at the London 2012 Paralympic have been showered with gift items by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited when they hosted them to a two-day event in Lagos.
The programme, which started on September 27 with a dinner at the Eko Hotels and Suits, was extended to Friday at the Wilmot Point Square where the athletes were spoilt with gift items which included plasma television sets.
The Managing Director of company, Chike Onyejekwe, said Shell wanted to appreciate the Paralympians for what they did for the country.
According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan gave them the highest reward the country could afford with the national awards.
“And we in shell have to contribute in our little way to equally show that we care,” Onyejekwe said.
The company’s Business Relations Manager, Mr. Ijere Kanu, said Shell was celebrating Nigeria at 52, saying it was the company’s tradition to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day every year.
They said the theme for this year’s is ‘Celebrating Exceptional Capabilities’, saying nothing was more exceptional than identifying with the athletes who were tagged disabled and yet were the ones that brought honour and glory to the country.
