An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced two men, Aba Mohammed, 29 and Uzonma Godwin, 30, to three months imprisonment for stealing a generator and copper wire valued N430,000.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the defendants had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge at their arraignment on Nov. 7. "Based on the evidence before the court, I find you guilty of the charges. I hereby sentence you to three months imprisonment each, without an option of fine," the Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka said.

The two accused, who claimed to be unemployed, were convicted on the two-count of conspiracy and stealing. The prosecutor, Insp. Gbemileke Agoi had told the court that the duo conspired to steal the properties of Design Unit Nigeria Ltd.

"A generator set valued N130,000 and copper wire worth N300,000 (all valued N430,000) were stolen from the company at about 3:00 a.m. The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

"The incident happened on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 at the company's office situated at Yusuf St., Lekki in Eti Osa Local Government Area of Lagos," Agoi said.
