Comments by John Paden, the authorised biographer of President Muhammadu Buhari, that the president had evidence to put Goodluck Jonathan in jail for corruption, has generated outrage among some Nigerians.
In his book titled Muhammadu Buhari: Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria,’ Paden, a professor of international studies, wrote that Buhari was more concerned about recovering stolen funds than about jailing anybody.
He said Buhari had letters in his possession showing former president Jonathan’s request for off-budget funds.
But the claims by Paden has caused a social media backlash from some of Nigerians who accuse President Muhammadu Buhari of chasing shadows instead of finding solutions to the economic recession ravaging the country.
Others warned that any move to send Jonathan to prison would spell doom for the current administration while another group dared the president to prosecute Jonathan and see the outcome.
