According to a statement made in Abuja, Friday, the donation is made in the light of friendly relations between the two countries.

“In response to the request from the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of friendly relations between Japan and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.

It lamented that the heavy rains which caused the flood damage has not abated as it has continued to get worse since August.

“UNOCHA reported that 363 people were dead, 18,200 people were injured, approximately 2.16 million people were evacuated to the shelters, and 618,089 houses were destroyed. The situation is not likely to be improved soon,” according to the statement.
