10 facts you need to know as Tunde Kelani clocks 68
Veteran filmmaker Tunde Kelani clocks 68 on Friday, February 26. The filmmaker and director who is known for his deeply rooted films has been celebrated both at home and abroad for his dexterity in handling the cameras.
Many actors have taken to the social media to celebrate the man some of them said brought out the best in them. Many of them displayed his photo on their DP. Legit.ng joins the movie and film making industry in celebrating a man of honour.
1. Tunde Kelani started out as a local photographer. He leart the art of photography while still in secondary school in Abeokuta.
2. He later went to work at the first television station in Africa Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) Ibadan where he built on his knowledge of photography before going to London film school where he obtained a Diploma in Art and the Technique of film making.
3. Have you ever wondered why Tunde Kelani is well versed and deep in the knowledge of Yoruba culture? Though he was born in Lagos in 1948, he went to live with his grandfather who was a chief in the ancient town of Abeokuta at the age of 5. He was there till he left secondary school and that explains his deep knowledge of where he comes from.
4. Have you ever seen TK as he is fondly referred to without his adire and aso oke cap trademark outfit? This is because he is proud of his root, Abeokuta which is the traditional home of adire cloth. Home and abroad TK has a touch of adire on him.
5. His film producing company Mainframe film and television production was started in 1991. He has since produced chart busting films which her culturally rich and of high quality. Among them are Thunderbolt, Campus Queen, Ti Oluwa Nile, Saworoide, Maami, Dazzling Mirage and others.
6. Pirates almost send TK out of business in Nigeria and he vowed to leave Nigeria for good in after his movie Maami. Maami was pirated within 48 hours of release and TK’s N30m went down the drain. He later changed his mind and produced Dazzling Mirage in 2015.
7. TK launched a web TV platform aimed at disrupting the activities of pirates that prey on Nollywood content.

8. Most of his films are adaptions of literary works. His films like Thunderbolt, Koseegbe, Oleku and others are from literary works.
9. He produced his first film after graduating from London while he was working with WNTV kn conjunction with Alagba Adebayo Faleti titled The Dilemma of Rev Father Michael.
10. At 68, Tunde Kelani has produced 18 films with the last being Dazzling Mirage.
