Government Launches Terror Victims Support Fund

The Nigerian authorities on July 31, Thursday, officially launched a fundraising for victims of terrorism in the country.

President Goodluck Jonathan acting as the Master of Ceremony for the Terror Victims Support Fund donated 10billion naira, with the total amount raised by the Federal Government on Thursday night 50 billion naira, Channels TV reports.

The country leader vowed that the established Fund would go a long way in rendering support to those affected.

The official also urged every Nigerian to participate in the process during this sorrowful period for the terror victims and for the whole nation. Jonathan narrated a story of a "kind-hearted Nigerian" Dr Uchenna Nnana Kalu who sent in a bank draft of 5,000 naira to his office from Abia State to show his concern and contribute to the Fund.

"Very clearly, Nigerians are very good people."

GEJ explained that any amount matters and no amount is too small adding that Kalu's N5,000 "can clothe a whole family or pay for their food for some days. We should, therefore, not think that our contributions have to be extremely large before they can be useful."
