Wife In Hospital After Husband Beats Her Over Food

Lagos policemen have arrested one Kamoru Bankole for physically abusing one of his wives and locking her up in a room for three days as a punishment for allegedly taking a larger piece of fish to break her fast.

Fatima Bankole, the first of three wives (34), was attacked by her husband on July 16. On that day, the victim narrated to SaharaReporters, one of the wives made the meal, served their husband and the children and then went for her own meal.

Soon after, however, the last wife complained that Fatima took a larger chunk of the fish in the pot. Fatima tried to explain to her husband she "only took a little out of it," that the fish was "in pieces and mixed in the stew."

Despite explanations, Mr. Bankole delivered several punches to her face, locking her up in a room for three days and leaving her to bleed.

The victim was saved by her neighbours who took her to the hospital for treatment and had to put on 26 stitches on her face.

This was not the first time Fatima was abused by their husband who had previously pulled her hair out and caused head injuries.

The husband was arrested following outcry and petitions by the Women Arise civil group in Lagos and is to face trial next week.
