Two Cameroonian Soldiers Killed During Boko Haram Attack

Two Cameroonian soldiers reportedly lost their lives in an overnight cross-border raid by the suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

The attack occurred late Thursday, July 24, in the border village of Balgaram in northern Cameroon.

This was disclosed on Friday, by a Cameroonian security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Vanguard reports.

According to the official, eight soldiers, who had been posted there fought back, but two were unlucky, as they lost their lives in the battle.

"Military reinforcements were sent to the area and several troops “entered Nigerian territory with the aim of finding the assailants," the official added.

More than 3,000 Nigerians fleeing their incessant attacks are said to have taken refuge in the Cameroonian town of Fotokol, a municipal official said. A police officer in the town has expressed worry over infiltrations by the insurgents among the refugees.

Boko Haram has been waging war in Nigeria and its neighbouring countries, in particular Cameroon. The sect has been blamed for several bomb explosions, abductions and killings.

The United Nations, UN, believes Boko Haram has killed more than 4,000 innocent people since 2009 through terror attacks.

Some days back, the insurgents have reportedly blew up a major bridge linking Nigeria with Cameroon in north-eastern Nigeria.

Recently the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.- Gen. Kenneth Minimah has revealed that some army personnel have abandoned the force due to the fear of the terrorists group Boko Haram.

However, Nigeria together with Cameroon, Chad and Niger have pledged to speed up the creation of a 2,800-strong regional force to battle Boko Haram terrorist group.
