Kidnappers Invade Girls School In Ibadan

Some persons believed to be kidnappers, allegedly invaded a secondary school, Onireke Girls’ High School in Ibadan, Oyo state on Monday, July 21, causing panic among students and teachers.

The suspected kidnappers numbering about five and dressed like mad persons had been terrorising students and staff of the school in the last few weeks.

There was confusion and academic activities paralysed on Monday, after they were sighted once again by a food vendor and some students inside a bush at the back of one of the classroom blocks within the school premises, Daily Sun reports.

The students, including those sitting for the Junior Secondary School Examination, reportedly scampered for safety.

The vice principal who was informed of the situation, followed the students to confirm the report and on getting there, one of the men men jumped out of the bush and attempted to attack him. The school’s gatekeeper and some male teachers were alerted and they chased the invaders to their hideout.

One of them was caught and later handed over to the police at the Oyo State Police Command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, while the others managed to escape.

Items recovered from their hideout included several bottles of hot drink, bottles of juice and soft drink, perfume, eggs, among others.

Kidnapping is becoming a rampant occurrence in various parts of the country and security operatives are making efforts to curb it. There was a showdown between men of the Imo state Police Force and suspected kidnappers on Monday morning, July 14, 2014 during a raid on the kidnappers’ den located at Okporu-Orlu area of the state.

Recently, 34 children were rescued from the hands of the kidnappers in Okunzu community located not far from Asaba while 2 of the suspects were killed in the operation.

Last week, the Lagos police reportedly rescued a 10-year-old boy from the hands of kidnappers and arrested one of the suspects.
