APC Suffers Mass Defection After Nyako's Impeachment

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reclaimed Adamawa State following the impeachment of former Governor Murtala Nyako.  

Daily Trust reports that all Local government Council Chairmen and development area administrators in the state have decamped to the ruling party, PDP.

It was gathered that, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the state acting governor was in a protracted crucial meeting with the 21 local government chairmen as well as 50 Development area administrators on Thursday.

 

Solomon Kumangar, the Chief Press Secretary to the Acting Governor confirmed that all the council chairmen are willing to defect from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, and that arrangements are being made to welcome the defectors.

 

It would be recalled that the embattled former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, was impeached from office by the state lawmakers on charges of corruption and misappropriation on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Many reactions have, however, trailed the development. Some Nigerians are expressing their support, while others, like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, condemned the action, warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Federal Government against excessive use of power.

Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd), GCON, CFR: rcds, D.Agric. (H.C.) was elected as the Executive Governor of Adamawa State in May 2007.Before then he served in the Navy, and also as a former military governor of Niger State. He was appointed Chief of Naval Staff in December 1989.
