Officers of the Taraba State Police Command on Sunday announced that gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed four people in Dinya village located in Gassol Local Government Council of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Joseph Kwaji, who made this known to newsmen in Jalingo, said the gunmen also set 30 houses ablaze.

"The police, on arrival at the scene of the attack, recovered 13 empty shells of AK47 rifle, four cartridges and an assault rifle" he said.

The spokesman revealed that a detachment comprising police and army had been drafted to the area, adding that investigation into the incident was ongoing.

The Ward Head of Danacha, Daniel Mbaterem, said the gunmen stormed the village at about 8 a.m. and began killing the villagers and burning houses.

It would be recalled that the Jukun, Tiv and Fulani communities recently signed a peace treaty to put an end to hostilities in the area as deadly violence in parts of the state had claimed the lives of over 50 people as well as the destruction of property worth million of naira.
