APC warns lawmaker, Evans Bipi to speak good English

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has threatened to recall the leader of a six-member faction of the State Assembly opposed to Governor Chibuike Amaechi-led administration, Hon. Evans Bipi, if he fails to apologise to the people of the state following his statements made about last Monday’s sitting of the House.

The party alleged that Bipi, who represents Ogu/Bolo Constituency in the House, committed grammatical blunders that were not befitting of a state lawmaker, thereby bringing the people of the state to disrepute.

A statement signed Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, senior special assistant on Media to the APC interim chairman, said the party would be forced to approach the Hon. Otelemaba Amachree-led House of Assembly to suspend the anti-Amaechi lawmaker as well as commence the processes for his recall should he fail to apologise to the people of the state.

The statement reads in part: “We watched with sadness the great embarrassment brought to Rivers State and its people by Hon. Evans Bipi, the self-acclaimed rebel speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Apart from conducting himself as a glorified tout, Hon. Bipi can hardly make a single correct sentence.

“For instance, Bipi during an interview with Channels TV broadcast on March 3, 2014, stated: ‘Those members who met with Amaechi in Government House today only went to met with their friends because the House is not sitting. They went to met their friend as far as I am concerned.’

“This grammatical blunder by a person parading himself as a lawmaker and aspiring speaker of the State House of Assembly in a civilsed and sophisticated state such as Rivers is no longer acceptable and must be condemned unequivocally as our people cannot be seen in such light as being represented by a half-baked semi-illiterate politician like Hon. Bipi.

“We hereby give Hon. Bipi 24 hours to apologise to the people of Rivers State for embarrassing them as do most officials of the Felix Obua-led PDP in the State.”
