NANS Call For The Removal Of JAMB

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the removal of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over what it considers as exploitative moves by the board.

Leadership reports that a protest was carried out by the association in Abuja on Monday, August 3 and was led by Comrade Tijani Usman, the national president.

The NANS president accused JAMB of collecting huge sums from candidates and that the examination board has outlived its importance.

“The reason why we are here is to tell the general public and the government of the day that JAMB has outlived its usefulness. Nigerian students have seen most of the draconian policies of JAMB that is exploitative

“Parents have been paying huge sums of money just for their children to get admission into various tertiary institutions, yet JAMB will not give them.” admission because JAMB cannot give admission,”

Mr John Okonkwo, director of quality assurance who spoke on behalf of JAMB said the policy introduced by JAMB was to actually give students the opportunity to get into the other universities if they didn’t secure their first choice university.

Meanwhile, the policy proposed by JAMB that sparked protest in the University of Lagos and threatened to move on to other universities was overruled by the federal government.
