Head Of DSS Demotes Ogar And Other Jonathan's Allies

The new director general of the Department of State Security, Lawal Musa Daura, has demoted Marilyn Ogar, the agency’s former spokesperson.

Ogar's demotion, and that of other officers of the agency who were promoted in March in what was seen as a politically motivated exercise, was made by memo.

Ogar has been seen as the controversial figure-head of the former president Goodluck Jonathan's hold on the agency.

She was promoted quickly as Jonathan was soon to leave the presidency, and critics have viewed it as a reward for doing dirty political jobs for the former president.

Even though promotions are supposed to have been done at the end of the year, Ogar and 44 others were promoted last March, although their promotions were not made public until May.

Ogar is currently out of the country as she is in the USA to visit her children.

She has also been offered a generous scholarship to do a PhD in the UK, according to one source at the agency.

Also demoted and transferred was Abdulrahman Mani, the chief security officer to President Buhari, who was replaced by Bashir Abubakar, an assistant director in the Bayelsa state command of the DSS.

Mani has been posted to Ebonyi state.

The current presidency's distrust of the DSS is no secret in Abuja as he has gone as far as to ban the agency from being inside the inner circle of the Aso Villa and instead employed the the armed forces for personal security.
