Garba Shehu Explains Why Ministers Still Not Appointed

After Muhammadu Buhari, the president's media adviser Garba Shehu explains why there is delay in the announcement of ministerial list.

Buhari said he was not in a hurry to appoint ministers attributing the development to the absence of cooperation from the side of Goodluck Jonathan's transition committee. Therefore he received a report only recently.

"I want to get ministers after at least I have seen the report because I don’t have to appoint a minister today and sack him the next week because this report would give me what actually happened in terms of security, economy of the country."

Speaking with Sahara Reporters, Garba Shehu, senior special adviser to the president for media and publicity, said that previous administrations and governors had waited for several months before announcing their appointments. He confirmed Buhari's words:

"[Transition Committee Chairman] Ahmed Joda was scrutinizing the handover notes that they had in the report. To be fair to him he would have hit the ground running if the government had given the handover notes.

"The President was left in the dark and  the administration he succeeded did not hand their notes until after three days he took over. He had not had any time to look over them."

Shehu further noted that Buhari was very careful about choosing people for this cabinet, thus he needed time to review the report and handover notes.
