Buhari's Anti-corruption War Starts
The first 14 days of Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s president show that leader of the nation starts eradicating corruption.
It would be recalled that while opening and during all his electoral campaign Buhari promised to tackle corruption, insecurity and economic issues, if elected. He said that these were the fundamental challenges facing Nigeria.
Buhari assured Nigerians that his party, the APC, would assemble a team of competent Nigerians to work with him to proffer solutions to the numerous problems plaguing the nation.

14 days passed and Nigerians can witness that President Buhari, who is yet to form his team, has already commenced fulfilling some of his vows.
Check out some facts below that prove this:
1. Ali Modu Sheriff, ex-governor of Borno state, has submitted himself to the authorities for onward processing.
Sheriff was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over allegations of corruption. The ex-governor is said to have willingly handed himself on June 3, Wednesday. It is considered that Sheriff might have been engaged in corruption schemes during his tenure.
2. Some officials of the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan have started returning stolen funds.
Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, has claimed that some of GEJ’s men has started returning some of the stolen loots they carted away while serving in the government. El-Rufai noted that many of them have agreed to do so in the interest of Nigeria.
3. Buhari's administration begins recovering stolen funds from oil marketers.
The government has allegedly tripped on some unlawful deals that were maintained by ex-petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke and some Nigerian oil companies as well as oil marketers. Buhari has worked out new strategies of retrieving these loots in oil industry.
4. The EFCC detains some officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria for N8bn currency scam.
The six officials of the CBN involved in an N8bn scam, were imprisoned on June 2. The CBN staff was accused of mopping up maimed and defaced higher denomination currencies from circulation, to combat inflation.
5. President Buhari reopens $182m Halliburton bribery case.
Nigeria’s leader has ordered the investigation committee made up of representatives of all the security agencies to dust off the file and complete the investigations and charge those indicted to court.
A report on the Halliburton bribery scandal by the US government had indicted three former Nigerian leaders, a former vice president, a minister, and some intelligence chiefs.

It should be noted that Buhari was a military ruler in Nigeria from December 31, 1983, to August 27, 1985, after taking power in a military coup.
A more positive aspect of Buhari’s record from his last tenure as the head of state is his regime’s reputation for honesty, dedication to the fight against corruption, and action against offending officials. Buhari’s short-lived regime imprisoned roughly 500 elite politicians and businessmen on corruption charges.
