Tinubu Is A Local Champion - Bode George Slams Him

Chief Bode George, a former national deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has reacted to the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki, as the Senate president.

George congratulated Saraki and Ekweremadu on their victory saying, “they understand what Nigeria is all about.”

According to the PDP chieftain, this marks the end of the political career of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

He said: “You know I predicted weeks ago that the APC is just a congregation of strange bedfellows. The most beautiful thing about what has happened is that Bola Tinubu’s political influence in Nigeria is coming to a sunset and it is about five minutes to midnight for him.”

In a telephone interview with the Punch, George said Tinubu’s political influence has grossly diminished and advised him to start preparing to quit politics.

He stated that Nigerians have had enough of Tinubu and chief Bisi Akande’s style of politics which according to him, involved imposition of candidates.

People like Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande in Osun have always been local champions. Now, they have come to the national level of politics and they are now learning the tricks that all that glitters is not gold,” George said.

He explained that Tinubu continued to push his luck too far when he should have taken things easy, saying he thought he could replicate what he did in Lagos at the national level but was shown he cannot continue to lord over everybody.

The PDP stalwart advised Tinubu to take it easy with President Muhammadu Buhari, because he has fought more battles than him as an army general and also has an understanding of things.

George said this was in line with his prediction that the PDP would bounce back, adding that it’s an opportunity for the PDP to start regrouping and getting ready for 2019.

Speaking on APC’s plan to sanction Saraki, he said: “The APC would discipline Saraki? Is Saraki a child? They probably think they are playing local politics like the one they play in Lagos State. I welcome them to the real world.”

George also criticised the national publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, for rejecting the outcome of the elections.

In a very surprising twist on June 9, Bukola Saraki was elected the Senate president and chairman of the 8th National Assembly ahead of Senator Ahmed Lawan, who was the preferred candidate of Tinubu.

A lot of reaction has been trailing this as the APC is not too pleased with it. While some analysts see Saraki as a traitor for going against the position of his party, others are of the opinion that it is a welcome development.

Reacting to the controversies trailing his emergence as Senate president, Saraki saluted President Buhari for remaining ‘steadfast’ in his defense of the right of the National Assembly to choose its own leaders.
