President Buhari Got Ticks On His 'Wish List'

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari holds talks about Boko Haram insurgency with President Francois Hollande of France after his participation in G-7 Outreach Programme in Germany.

Buhari said that insurgents neither know God nor believe in Him, promising that his government is totally committed to ending the group’s terrorism in the shortest possible time.

It should be noted that insecurity tops the list of requests, which were presented by Buhari to the G7 countries.

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, in a statement cited Buhari President as saying that Nigeria will welcome greater support and cooperation from France and other friendly countries for its current efforts to defeat Boko Haram and renew full security and normalcy to areas affected by the group’s atrocities.

He said that his government was already taking concrete action to build a more efficient and effective coalition of Nigeria and neighbouring countries against Boko Haram.

Buhari said that Nigeria would appreciate more intelligence on the terrorist group’s links with ISIS, movements, training and sources of its weapons and ammunition to ease of the perfection of fresh tactics and strategies being develop to overcome terrorism in the country and its sub-region.

Nigeria's leader repeated at the talks with his French counterpart that there was absolutely no link between religion and the barbarity of Boko Haram.

On his own turn, President Hollande hailed President Buhari’s concerted efforts to galvanize Nigeria’s Armed Forces, security agencies and neighouring countries for more conclusive action to eliminate the insurgents.

The French president assured Buhari that France will give Nigeria and its alliance partners greater support against terrorism, comprising military and intelligence cooperation, to help them overcome the security challenge posed by Boko Haram and its world terrorist alliance as quickly as possible.

He also asked for greater mutual cooperation between Nigeria and France in other areas comprising trade, economic and cultural relations.

Presidential aide said Nigeria also received similar promises of increased support from Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada and Chancellor Angela Merkel who he also conferred with before departing from the venue of the G-7 2015 Summit.

It should be noted that during the G7 meeting President Buhari was sitting next to US President Barack Obama. It probably means that relations between both countries are improving.
