Yola Market Bomb Blast Kills 32 Persons

Latest report from the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA), informs that no fewer than 32 persons were killed in the Thursday night explosion near Jimeta Mordern market, Yola.

This detail was disclosed to NAN on Friday in Yola by the NEMA Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Sa’ad Bello.

Bello added that 53 others were injured during the blast, saying that most of the affected persons were roadside food vendors, meat sellers and fruit sellers.

According to the NEMA coordinator, both the dead and injured victims had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, and the Specialists Hospital, Yola.

Meanwhile, members of the public has been advised to endeavour to doThe coordinator appealed to the public to donate blood to victims of the tragic accident in order for their lives to be saved.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa Police Command, DSP Othman Abubakar, confirmed the incident but said he had yet to get details of the casualties.

It would be recalled that a suspected suicide bomber had denoted a bomb in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state.

Salihu Aliyu, a resident of the town who spoke to Premium Times said  that the blast occurred at about 7:45pm in front of the Jimeta main market.

“We just finished observing the Maghrib prayer when we heard a loud blast in the direction of the market,” he said.

He said casualties may be high because the explosion occurred as many traders were closing to go home.

An eyewitness said at least 10 people were killed, leaving about 30 injured.

According to Leadership, officials of Jimeta corp marshals a local security, as well as traders were killed in the bomb blast.

A barbecue meat seller and his three children were reportedly killed by the explosion as they were about to commence night business.

Meanwhile properties belonging to the marketers have perished following the fire ignited by the bomb explosion.

Another resident of the area Mallam Musa Sani, who spoke to Leadership said he was preparing to go to the mosque to say the last prayer when he heard the sound of explosion.

The Public Relations Officer of Adamawa state police command, DSP Othman Abubakar confirmed the incident. He said the command is yet to ascertain the casualty figure.
