You Must Fulfill Your Campaign Promises – Lamido To GMB

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state has tacitly attacked the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, for his utterance earlier in the month during a congratulatory visit from the All Progressives Congress governors.

It will be recalled that Buhari while addressing newsmen, said he did not know how to tell Nigerians that he will not be able to turn the economy around quickly as promised.

“The expectation is too high and I have started nervously to explain to people that Rome was not built in a day. For this to be corrected, please, give the incoming government a chance," Buhari said.

This, however, did not go down well with Lamido as he has warned the incoming administration against giving excuses for not implementing its campaign promises.

According to Daily Post, the governor said Nigerians would not tolerate any failure on the part of the new administration as soon as it assumes office on May 29.

Speaking at a public function in Dutse, the state capital, where he commissioned the N302 million Jigawa State Independent National Electoral Commission, (JSIEC) office, Lamido said Nigerians were impatiently waiting for the next government to execute its campaign promises.

According to him: “We heard them asking Nigerians for patience on their inability to implement their electoral promises even before assuming office. They also said that they can’t achieve everything overnight and that everything should be done gradually. Which gradually? Is it now that they know that everything should be gradual?

“As Nigerians too, we are not going anywhere; we will keep tracking the government’s failures as there will be no tolerance and we must shout at them and they must work for Nigerians. Our government turned Nigeria into a new world, Jigawa State in particular, but because of selfish interests, they kept sabotaging, blackmailing and intimidating our government.”

Meanwhile, the governor last week handed over the affairs of government to the secretary of the state government, Lawan Abdu Babura, with the excuse that he is proceeding on annual leave.
