Boko Haram Insurgents Kill 11 People In Gwoza

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly killed 11 people in Gwoza, Borno state.

According to reports, the victims were among the civilians recently rescued when the Nigerian troops recaptured the town.

The Punch reports with reference to its military source that the civilians  had been evacuated from the mountain, where they had to stay during the Boko Haram reign in the area.

Based on the information provided, they were further taken to a "safe" place, But it turned out to be deadly for them.

The source said:

"It was unfortunate that while they were kept at a supposed safer place at the base of the hill, with some (military) troops stationed there to guard them, some Boko Haram men struck on Wednesday, and killed at least 11 of the people."

Ibrahim Musa, residing in Maiduguri, lamented that he had lost a friend in the attacks adding that a soldier informed him about the unfortunate development on April 17, Friday.

After months of terror, Gwoza was finally reclaimed by the Nigerian military in the end of March. The army officials characterized the success as "the climax of series of operational activities of the troops" in the northeast. After the operation the military continued mopping up the town to arrest the terrorists who remained in the area.
