Gov Okorocha Demands the Release of Voters Unlawfully Detained By Army

Pictures have surfaced showing Gov Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, trying to securing the release of about 500 eligible voters who were illegally arrested yesterday on their way to vote in the presidential election.

The arrests were allegedly made by the Army and the Dss in connivance with the PDP in bid to whittle the political influence of APC in the state.

Reports on Nairaland states that graduates, undergraduates and adults were arrested and their PVCS confiscated to deny them their right to vote.

All attempts to free the illegally detained persons was denied by the combined team of Army led by a Captain and the Department of State Security.

Gov Rochas Okorocha lamented the illegal detention of the hapless voters and called on voters to resist intimidation but remain law abiding.

Many had raised the fears of voters being intimidated by security agencies during the polls. The northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum on March 27, had warned security agents against intimidating or harassing voters during the polls for no just cause.
