300 Youth Groups Storm Abuja For Jonathan

No fewer than 300 youth groups gathered in Abuja on Friday to secure the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in next week's presidential polls.

The one day meeting of the youth groups at the ruling party's headquarters in Abuja was at the instance of the directorate of Youth Mobilisation of the PDP presidential Campaign organisation.

Speaking at the occasion, the National Youth Leader of the PDP, who doubles as the Director of the Directorate of Youth Mobilisation, Rt Hon Abdullahi Husseini MaiBasira, chronicled the youth credentials of the incumbent President whom he described as the number one fan of Nigerian youths considering his passion and commitment to the empowerment of young Nigerian.

MaiBasira stated that the 2015 general election is an election for young people, urging the those present at the gathering not to let a man who truncated democracy exactly one month after he (MaiBasira) was born in 1983 to benefit from a process he destroyed.

He urged affiliated youth groups to up their tempo on all platforms and ensure a resounding victory for President Jonathan and the PDP at all levels.

Also Speaking at the event was Toyosi Akerele, an assistant director in the directorate, who restated the need for all young people to rally roundJonathan in his quest for a second term.

Akerele described the incumbent President's decision to support a 30 year old to emerge as the National youth leader of the ruling and the appointment of several young Nigerians into sensitive positions as very heartwarming.

Barrister Anthony Ehilebo of Rethink Nigeria who also spoke at the event stated that the youths of Nigeria will not be deceived by a man who attended the National Council of State meeting for the first time because an issue that concerns him will be discussed.

He questioned why Gen Buhari who shunned all previous meetings called to proffer lasting solutions to the current wave of insurgency in the country could suddenly turn up at the Council of State meeting when election matters would be raised.

Speaking in the same vein, PDP's flag bearer for the Oshodi-Isolo Federal constituency, Hon. Tony Nwolu, commended Maibasira and PDP Directorate of Youth Mobilisation for the commitment and passion they have shown towards the re-election bid of President Jonathan.

He also thanked the ruling party and Lagosians for allowing an Igbo man to fly it's flag in the forthcoming election.

Others who spoke at the event also expressed their loyalty and commitment to the Jonathan/Sambo ticket, vowing to deliver on February 14th.

The Gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Niger state, Alh Umar Nasko was also at the event.
