Buhari's Ill Health, Alleged Collapse – PDP's Slander

The information that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria’s opposition party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari collapsed while delivering his speech in Calabar during the Presidential Campaign on 7 January, has been described by his campaign aide as a rumour and slander.

The information about Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s ill health was branded by his supporters as another effort by the PDP-led government to defame APC's candidate. Explaining the situation a campaign aide who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Buhari actually tripped on the wrapper but quickly restored the balance.

According to him, delayed campaign stop at Benin City was cancelled at the request of the Edo state governor, Comrade Adam Oshiomhole. At a stop in Port Harcour Buhari himself confirmed that he is in good health and now on his way to the next stage of his campaign stops at Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra states.

Buhari’s political opponents in the person of Pastor U. Usani, the Cross River State Chairman of APC, claimed that such rumours area cheap propaganda and said, “Come today, tomorrow and the future, APC as a party that is set for change, will not fail Nigerians by bringing out an unfit person for a job that involves the people and their future. This allegation is a litmus of test of their failure to serve the people well and come 14th Feb, they would start escaping with the people’s loot.”
