Bomb Blast Rocks Gombe Motor Park

At least 15 people are feared to have died when bomb exploded at Dukku Park in Gombe, North Eastern Nigeria, this morning.

A top security source has informed TheCable that the bomb blast has resulted in the death of “many people”.

According to him the blast occurred at about 11am, a time when the park was soaked with passengers “who wanted to travel” ahead of the Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays. Details of death toll were not immediately available.

An eyewitness told the Daily Trust that he counted at least 15 bodies.

Though the police have cordoned off the area, many injured have been transported to  hospital.

Abubakar Yakubu Gome, the Red Cross secretary for Gombe state while speaking about casualities, said: “There was an explosion at the Dukku motor park. The Red Cross mobilised with 20 body bags and they have all been exhausted. We are still looking for more bodies among the carnage.”

The Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer says Police Foil Bomb attacks in Gombe state on 16.12.2014 at about 9:10AM.

The statement reads, “Military personnel on Stop and Search along #Potiskum Road by Ashaka/Bajoga Junction intercepted one Honda Odyssey vehicle with registration number AT 670 DKA (#YOBE) driven by a man later identified as Nuru Fika.

According to the Police account, the driver who claimed that the car was faulty requested the security personnel to assist him in pushing the car. But the driver was requested to open the booth for searching which he refused. The booth was forced opened and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) were discovered there in.

Dukku park serve several routes including Bajoga, a town Boko Haram invaded early this month.

An explosion rocked a bus station in Gombe on October 31, 2014. The number of dead was up to 30 people, as the figures from various sources remain conflicting and contradictory.

A group of suspected Boko Haram gunmen also attacked a police station in Nafada town, Ashaka cement factory in Gombe state.

Boko Haram recently released new video in which claimed “from now, killing, slaughtering, destruction and bombing will be our religious duty anywhere we invade”.
