Aminu Tambuwal Picks Sokoto Governorship Form

Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, who has been fighting hard to retain his post, has now made another bold political move.

New reports from Premium Times have revealed that Tambuwal is now vying for the Sokoto governorship position in the coming elections.

The speaker will contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He reportedly picked up his form in Sokoto, on Friday, three days after he dropped his ambition to run for the office of the president.

This development was confirmed by his spokesperson, Imam Imam, on Twitter.

The Speaker while speaking during the presentation of the form, assured that he would ensure collectivity and team work for the development of the state.

He said: “My presence here today is in response to call by the good people of Sokoto State for me to come back home and serve them in the capacity of governor and I formally present myself as an aspirant and to purchase an expression of interest form for governorship election.

I also assure that if given the mandate, we shall carry everyone along and in tune with the value system by ensuring the peace and stability of Sokoto State.

He also made sure to commend current governor Aliyu Wamakko.

“We and the entire north are proud of you,” Tambuwal stated.

Recall that the Speaker and other lawmakers were on Thursday locked out from the National Assembly complex by policemen that invaded the place.

Security operatives had blocked the entrance of the National Assembly complex, preventing lawmakers from gaining access into the building. Some of the lawmakers decided to defy the security men and started scaling the gate. In the process, some were tear-gassed by policemen acting on order from above.

The incident has been trailed with a lot of controversy, following the embarrassing photos of lawmakers scaling the gate which has since gone viral.

Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) expressed shock over the role played by the country’s security operatives.

Fani-Kayode in his reaction, accused the lawmakers of breaking the law and disgracing the country.
