FIFA Gives Nigeria New Deadline

For the umpteenth time, the world football governing body, FIFA, has given the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, a new deadline for it to fix the crisis rocking the Nigerian football house.

According to a letter sent to the federation on Tuesday, 28 October, 2014, FIFA gave the NFF until Friday, 31 October, 2014, to overturn a court ruling that annulled its football elections or face suspension from all football related activities organised by FIFA until May 2015.

The letter also stated that the new directive must be met by midday, 31 October.

"As stated in our previous letters, FIFA stressed that should the electoral process and the instalment of the newly elected NFF board be affected by any interference, the case would be brought to the attention of the appropriate Fifa bodies for a suspension of the NFF until the next Fifa Congress due to take place on 28 and 29 May 2015.

"We thus hope that by Friday midday, we will receive the requested evidence in order to avoid the adverse consequences of a suspension," part of the letter to NFF posted by BBCSport.

If suspended, the Super Eagles will subsequently be expelled from qualification for next year's Africa Cup of Nations.

It would be recalled that Nigeria have been banned twice this year for government interference in the NFF.

FIFA had also warned the country in September and again in October that another incident would result in a lengthy ban.

It was reported on Tuesday that the president of Nigerian Senate, David Mark, had urged the NFF to fix the crisis rocking the football house in the interest of football loving Nigerians.
