PDP Adopts Jonathan As Sole Candidate

PDP Adopts Jonathan As Sole Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, September 18, decided on a sole candidate for 2015 presidential elections, and it is Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to Premium Times, the adoption of Jonathan as a sole candidate means that no other person can contest for the position on the platform of the PDP.

The party's National Executive Committee (NEC) made the decision at Thursday national secretariat in Abuja. It would be recalled that a similar move was earlier made by the PDP governors’ forum.

During the sensational meeting Niger State governor Muazu Aliyu said that all PDP governors had in their meeting on Wednesday "unanimously without any reservation decided to endorse the sole candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election".

Dropping a brief remark, Senate President David Mark said:

"At the PDP Caucus of the National Assembly, we have decided that a sitting and performing president should be given a chance to continue to perform even better‎."

The move was supported by the former national chairman of the party, Bello Haliru who said:

"We have never taken a wrong decision before. We cannot change a winning formula that have been working for us since 1999. In PDP we have a tradition of queuing up behind our leaders. President Jonathan has performed creditably well‎ as attested to by all the organs of the party. Therefore, for the good of Nigeria and for the good work that the PDP is doing for the country, I move that the NEC endorse the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s candidate in the 2015 election."

The meeting is reportedly still ongoing, with Jonathan yet to respond to his endorsement.
