Boko Haram Takes Over Yobe Town, Preaches To The People

Residents of Gulani town in Yobe State were forced into hiding in the bush as Boko Haram insurgents reportedly took over the town.

The sect were said to have carried on preaching to those who didn’t flee and were remaining in the town.

According to report, the sect didn’t kill anybody neither they did hurt anyone.

It was gathered by Daily Trust from residents that youths and households deserted the town after they sighted the militants heading to the town on Sunday evening in Hilux vans and motorcycles.

The militants upon realizing the people were panicking went to the Ward head’s house and registered their arrival, telling him that their coming was just to preach and not to harm anyone.

They explained that the insurgents passed the night in the town and early the next day, they called for the morning prayers (Subh) at the central mosque where they preached to the remaining residents for over an hour and then headed back to the government lodge where they were staying.

The source added that there were no security operatives to challenge them and they were still occupying the government lodge at the time of filing this report.

Gulani town in Gulani LGA in Yobe south shares boundary with Gujba area of the state and it is said to be one of the strongest enclaves of the insurgents.

This is coming after Nigerian Army, yesterday, Septemeber 1, repelled Boko Haram attack and killed over 50 memebers of the sect.

The Islamist group, Boko Haram, over the past months have continued to carry out their incessant attacks in the north eastern region, especially Borno State, where they have reportedly taken over some towns, killing scores of people while also causing massive destruction in the area.

On August 20, members of the dreaded sect stormed the town of Buni Yadi, in Yobe State, in a convoy of numerous sports utility vehicles and armed with sophisticated weapons.
